BVerfG, 28.02.1961 \u2013 2 BvG 1\/60 und 2\/60<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2 translation-block\">We believe this principle is <strong>under threat<\/strong> from two structural phenomena:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\"><li><strong>Ethical dilemma<\/strong>: Media producers have to balance the need to meet their <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/comppress.org\/en\/wiki-verlinkung-1a\/\" target=\"_blank\">own ethical standards<\/a> with the need <a href=\"https:\/\/comppress.org\/en\/wiki-verlinkung-1b-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to finance themselves.<\/a> Many media products are designed primarily with financial interests (paid advertising, clickbait, etc.) in mind which are often <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/comppress.org\/en\/wiki-verlinkung-1c-handlungsmaximen\/\" target=\"_blank\">not compatible with high-quality journalism<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Excess<\/strong>: the media consumer is confronted with an almost infinite amount of information that is almost impossible to get a handle on without external control.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">This leads to a chain of negative <strong>Consequences<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\"><li class=\" translation-block\">the media consumer is <strong>insufficiently informed<\/strong> about politics and society<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">and thus leans more toward a <strong>distorted worldview<\/strong>,<\/li><li>which equates to an individual\u2019s <strong>own free will being modified without their control.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">This can result in destructive political decisions that are not fully understood by the \npopulation, but are nevertheless democratically legitimized. Radio is more than just a \u2018medium\u2019 for forming public opinion; <strong>it is an eminent \u2018factor\u2019 in the formation of public opinion.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><br><em>(Federal Constitutional Court (BVerfG) \"Broadcasting-Decision\" (Rundfunk-Urteil), Feb. 28th 1961, Cases 2 BvG 1\/60 and 2 BvG 2\/60)<\/em><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide are-vertically-aligned-center tw-cols-stack-md is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"cus-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"konzept\">The concept  \u2013 our solution<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">COMPPRESS is the answer to these challenges, putting the emphasis on quality and presenting the wealth of information clearly in a single app!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2 translation-block\"><strong>In Theory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\"><li>Connecting the motivation for financial gain with the desire to maximize quality so that<\/li><li>profit is not maximized at the expense of quality and vice versa.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2 translation-block\"><strong>In Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"ox-clipboard-data\" class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\"><li class=\" translation-block\">Using a <strong>rating system<\/strong> for users where<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">news items with good ratings are <strong>easier to see in the app<\/strong>, while news items with poor ratings are harder to see, meaning<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\"><strong>better quality news<\/strong> generates more money through more clicks for the media producer, making it<\/li><li>for the media producer <strong>financially worthwhile <a href=\"https:\/\/comppress.org\/en\/wiki-verlinkung-2-einordnung-loesung\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to produce high-quality news<\/a><\/strong> , thereby<\/li><li>making the quality of journalistic products the most significant financial incentive over time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2 translation-block\">This leads to a chain of <strong>positive consequences<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"ox-clipboard-data\" class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\"><li class=\" translation-block\">individuals are <strong>adequately informed<\/strong> about politics and society<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">and thus lean less toward a<strong>distorted worldview<\/strong>,<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">meaning the individual is\n<strong>more independent in their decision-making process.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2 translation-block\" id=\"ox-clipboard-data\">The societal implications\ncan be <strong>constructive political decisions<\/strong> in the democratic process and, above all, successful democratic control of politics - your quality guarantee<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\" id=\"ox-clipboard-data\">COMPPRESS is not just another editorial office with its own definition of quality!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/comppress.org\/en\/wiki-verlinkung-3-bewertungssystem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COMPPRESS rating system<\/a> is based on the values set out in the German Press Code. News items are thus rated according to the standards that the German media landscape has committed itself to! <br>\nHowever, for this international, English language version we have compared the German Press Code with the most prominent international journalistic principles and codes \u2013 essentially, the norms and principles are based on the same core values. Therefore, the criteria selected are transferable and the COMPRESS rating system can be applied to international articles as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">Nevertheless, not all values listed in the German Press Code are suitable for the purposes of a general \/ non-topic-specific rating system. We took the values of \u201ctruthfulness\u201d and \u201ccare\u201d as our basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"tw-mb-2 tw-mt-2\">In order to convert these two criteria into a rating system, COMPPRESS has assessed their importance based on the specifications of other press codes, including international editions, and based on the latest research into criteria for good journalism.
